Welcome to Bods

BODS is a Sydney based social golf club that was started to enable a few mates to have an opportunity to catch up for a regular beer and a game of golf. We play at different courses each month and have events and formats that give everyone an opportunity to win.

The club owes much of it's success and longevity to Scott (The Dog) Muir, who put in countless hours of his own time to get the idea off the ground and give it the momentum over the  last 22 years and counting. Scott was elected as a Life Member in December 2019.

Membership has surged in the last few years and 2023 we had 29 members.

Membership will be set at 30 for 2024 so we ask all players to pay up front as soon as possible.

Read below to understand how it all began.

Bods The Beginning

In early 2001 four retired Monterey hockey players, Scott (The Dog) Muir, Boyd Archer, Tyrone Ford and Dale Muir decided to organise a regular game of golf so that they could keep in touch and have a few beers together. It was decided that Scott would organise it. When the game took place at Macarthur Grange in March of 2001 there were 8 starters;

  • Scott Muir
  • Dale Muir
  • Tyrone Ford
  • Dale Wells (First Winner)
  • Bill Morris
  • Jamie Chaytor
  • Geoff Russell
  • Gary Goodwin

After the 2nd game at Macarthur Grange the boys talked about playing regularly at different courses. It was decided that Scott would organise it. Scott sent requests for tee times to various clubs and within 3 weeks they had regular monthly booking for the next 18 months.

Not long after Tyrone and Bill came up with the name BODS which means Better Off Drinking Sundays.

To make it fair to players of all standards and give everyone a chance to win, Scott created a unique handicap system which saw some players hitting off with handicaps up to and over 60. For anyone that happened to win though, it was CHOP CHOP CHOP!!! losing 5 shots.

As word got around the club began to grow and friends, family and work colleagues joined our group. It was decided that a committee was needed to help Scott run the club. Geoff Russell became our first President, Tyrone Ford our Captain with Scott the CEO.

Our logo was created by Paul Caukill, and Caps and shirts were purchased with the logo on, which became compulsory at every game.

In 2002 the Archer Cup was created. This is a Ryder cup style event where the Presidents team takes on The Captains. This has proved an extremely popular event which generates plenty of sledging between the 2 teams both before and during the matches.

In 2003 a Bods Tour was embarked upon with Tour Manager Kevin Hadfield and CEO Scott Muir arranging a trip to Cessnock. The courses played were The Vintage and Cypress Lakes and the main rule was, and continues to be, "What Goes on Tour Stays on Tour". A Willie Mason wig was introduced for the player coming last after day 1. Ron Hadfield had the privilige of being the first person to don the wig..

Christmas Cheer Day has become a celebration of the year with Kris Kringle, free drinks, golf carts and season trophies paid by the club. It is held at Campbelltown Golf Club in December each year.

December 2008 saw the 100th Bods game played at Campbelltown golf course. Bods continues to provide everybody an opportunity to have a few laughs, a few beers, play on different Golf courses and spend time out with mates they may not otherwise get to see.

In December 2019 we appointed our first Life Member - Scott Muir and 2020 Geoff Russell ex- President was appointed  in 2021 Michael Smith in 2022 and last year Chris Smith was elected.

Remember it started because 4 mates wanted to stay in touch and have a beer and resulted in a Legend being born, the legend of BODS.......
